Job Summary
Operate special equipment for physically impaired students, assist in loading and unloading students with adaptive equipment, and secure them in appropriate restraints per individualized transportation plans. Monitor student behavior during transport, communicate professionally with parents and staff, and maintain confidentiality of student records. Participate in required training activities, emergency evacuation drills, and meetings with the Transportation Department while abiding by all federal, state, and local laws. Maintain a calm atmosphere on the bus and perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
Required Qualifications
- Must pass a Non-DOT physical, including a drug test
- Must complete and meet all DOT, VDOE, Commonwealth of Virginia and Bedford County transportation trainings and requirements
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Must exhibit manual dexterity
- Must hear and understand speech at normal levels
- Must speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly
- Must see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Must have physical agility to lift and carry up to 25 to 50 pounds
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead
