Job Summary

Assist students with entering or exiting the bus, seat them safely using restraints, and monitor passengers to ensure safety regulations and conduct rules are followed. Exercise student management through communication and discipline per Board policy, document violations, and physically assist in emergency evacuations. Maintain vehicle cleanliness, complete required paperwork, and report to duty on time while interacting with students, parents, and school personnel. Perform duties with a neat appearance, professional demeanor, and high attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings in order to remain qualified
  • Must have a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity to safely use various types of restraints, secure wheelchairs, etc
  • Ability to relate to and work well with children
  • Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management
  • High level of professionalism and diplomacy skills to work with students, fellow employees, parents, and school district personnel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift and assist students when necessary
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Personal computer skills necessary
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • In case of emergency must be able to traverse about school campus and lead students to safety
  • Employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
  • Regular and reliable in person attendance required
