Job Summary
Lead the Burgaw Regional Laboratory and satellite asphalt laboratory in Kinston, NC, overseeing technicians, ensuring accurate construction materials testing, maintaining safety protocols, optimizing laboratory procedures and staffing, and ensuring adherence to AASHTO accreditations. The role emphasizes collaboration, leadership, strong communication, organization, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement in a technical engineering environment. The successful candidate will possess a technical background in engineering, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical personnel. The position may require lifting up to 70 lbs, standing for extended periods, and wearing protective equipment. Salary range offered: NC14, $52,592 - $92,036.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution
- seven (7) years of progressive technician experience
- Experience supervising employees including planning schedules, implementing goals, administering new policies, procedures and objectives
- Knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, practices, and procedures relating to multiple material type testing administered by the Materials and Tests Laboratories
- Experience coordinating and communicating effectively with other team members to achieve a common goal
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, databases, and data analysis, including laboratory information systems or similar laboratory result entry systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation used in an analytical laboratory for quantitative and qualitative analysis of engineered materials
- Ability lift samples and equipment weighing up to 70lbs
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and wear safety glasses and other personal protective equipment
- Minimum education and experience equivalency guidance as applicable
