Job Summary
Building Maintenance Worker performs a wide range of routine maintenance and custodial tasks across NMHO facilities, including minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, hardware), janitorial duties, and building upkeep. Duties involve maintaining safety and cleanliness, inspecting and repairing fixtures, coordinating with supervisor on special projects, supervising external contractors, processing work orders, managing supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety policies (WorkSafeBC, WHMIS). The role requires certification in building services or maintenance, a BC driver’s license, and a vulnerable sectors background check. Strong ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, work collaboratively or independently, and mentor new staff is expected, with an emphasis on reliable, timely completion of maintenance requests and adherence to city policies and procurement procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized certification program in building services work or building maintenance work
- A current and valid BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record
- Police Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) is required
- Ability to operate and use building maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work effectively with a team
- Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort
- Ability to explain and demonstrate instructions and guidelines to others effectively
