Job Summary
Building Structure Director responsible for planning, supervising and developing structural engineering activities, ensuring technical quality, budgets and schedules, and growing the team and business portfolio in the Gatineau and Outaouais region. Lead and mentor the structural engineering team; oversee design, verification, and drawing of structures (steel, concrete, wood, mixed) and participate in strategic planning and business development. Coordinate with architecture, mechanical, electrical, and civil departments; ensure compliance with QBC and CSA standards; supervise technical specifications, reports, and cost estimates; maintain client and subcontractor relationships; participate in recruiting and training; stay up to date with technical and regulatory developments and innovations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering, structural option
- Active member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, including at least 5 years as a manager or technical director
- Proficiency in design software (ETABS, SAP2000, ADA, SAFI)
- Strong knowledge of materials (steel, concrete, wood, masonry)
- Excellent understanding of the Québec Building Code and relevant CSA standards
- Interpersonal skills including leadership, communication, and team management
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading structural engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of Québec Building Code (QBC) and CSA standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering (structural option)
- Active member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Minimum 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience
- At least 5 years in a management or technical director role
- Proficiency with design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, ADA, SAFI
- Experience with different materials (steel, concrete, wood, masonry)
- Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and project portfolios
- Strong leadership, communication, and people-management skills
- Experience coordinating with architecture, mechanical, electrical and civil teams
- Ability to develop technical specifications, reports and cost estimates
- Client and subcontractor relationship management
- Recruiting, training, and evaluating structural staff
- Familiarity with BIM and modern collaborative tools
- Knowledge of or experience with sustainability and innovative design practices
- Strong understanding of codes and regulatory requirements
- Strategic planning and business development capabilities
