Job Summary
Perform general repair, maintenance, renovation, and alterations on University buildings, furnishings, and structures to ensure a safe, accessible, and well-maintained campus environment. Construct, renovate, and repair wood, concrete, and other materials; install and maintain drywall, framed steel stud partitions, suspended acoustic ceilings, doors, windows, and roofing systems. Manage interior finishes including vinyl flooring, ceramic tiles, and countertops, while fabricating furniture, concrete formwork, and specialized work surfaces. Coordinate work assignments and handle glass products and associated hardware. Maintain valid Ontario Class G driver's license and Red Seal Certification. Full-time position with a salary range of $41.55.
Required Qualifications
- A G License / Driver's Abstract Certification
- Red Seal Certification
- Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
- Licensed General Carpenter with Certificates of Qualification and Certificates of Apprenticeship in the Province of Ontario
- Minimum five (5) years recent experience as a licensed carpenter
- Experience in industrial, commercial and/ or institutional building construction, renovation, maintenance and repair
- Work experience within major institutional sector(s), such as education, post-secondary education, medical/ hospital or related construction industry
- Must be customer and team oriented
- Must be self-motivated
- Must be able to work successfully with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools, shop equipment, repair and joinery techniques involved in building envelope, interior and furniture maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Ability to make accurate material takeoffs and estimates
- Ability to write summary reports of condition assessment surveys when necessary
- Possesses a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent
- Working/ field knowledge covers theory, field experience, reading and working from design prints
- Fully conversant in the Ontario Building Code
- Fully conversant in the Ontario Fire Code
