Building Sciences Technician

Job Summary

Monitor and oversee clients' contractors during environmental and regulated building materials remediation activities while acting as the direct company representative on-site. Evaluate contractor performance, interface with regulatory agencies, and maintain chain of custody for sampling data and project records. Operate standard environmental monitoring instruments to collect soil, water, air, and waste samples, then accurately record field observations and analytical results. Assist in developing project work plans, manage minor schedule changes, and prepare compliance reports, logs, and draft figures for quality review. Perform strenuous physical activities and travel up to 75% regionally and locally. Maintain required certifications for hazardous waste and asbestos, including OSHA compliance training.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years of college completed or four years of work experience
  • Appropriate technical certificates recognizing specific training of expertise in a discipline related to asbestos and lead certifications for inspection and project monitoring
  • One year of work experience in a technical or scientific capacity, or equivalent experience in the environmental consulting field
  • Proficient personal computer skills with Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be able to carry out sampling and data management tasks accurately and in accordance with standard procedures
  • Must be able to learn and apply regulatory requirements in routine sampling tasks
  • Must learn to operate and maintain standard monitoring instruments
  • Must always be able to work safely
  • Must be well organized with the ability to meet schedule commitments
  • Must be capable of obtaining Health & Safety certification for hazardous waste (pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120) / asbestos (pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101), and other state/local certifications as required to provide CGRA's core services
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities
  • Some travel is required. (Up to 75% regional / local travel.)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Four years of college with a degree in a related environmental or science field is preferred
