Building Maintenance Supervisor

Job Summary
Oversee the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operation of municipal buildings and facilities; supervise a team of maintenance technicians, custodial staff, and contractors; plan, schedule, and enforce preventive maintenance; ensure compliance with safety regulations; respond to emergency maintenance issues; manage records, budgeting, and procurement related to maintenance activities; collaborate with city departments on facility needs and capital projects; provide leadership, coaching, and performance evaluations to staff.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; additional technical or vocational training in facilities maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in building or facility maintenance, including at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), maintenance procedures, and safety regulations
- Must possess a valid State driver’s license upon employment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in emergency situations
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and municipal facility standards
- Skill in evaluating contractor performance and ensuring compliance with city requirements
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math; ability to work with public and staff
- Ability to learn and perform assigned tasks quickly and correctly
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees

- Nonexempt status (FLSA)
- Must be able to perform physical labor including lifting up to 100 pounds intermittently and long periods of standing
