Job Summary
Building Maintenance Summer High School Intern responsible for on-the-job training in maintenance tasks. Gives high school students hands-on experience with tools, safety practices, and routine maintenance duties across HVAC and electrical systems, while completing 30 hours/week for six weeks, insightful reflections through weekly journals, and a final presentation. Skills include using basic hand and power tools, reading a tape measure within a quarter of an inch, ability to learn and work independently, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and ability to work from a ladder. Duties include following safety guidelines, handling routine maintenance requests, and contributing to building upkeep in various weather conditions. The program includes career/college exploration activities and may earn a Work Experience Credit at Burlington High School.
Required Qualifications
- Current Burlington High School Student
- Demonstrated interest in the career field
- Past coursework, experience, or demonstrated basic skills in the career field
- Preference will be given to underrepresented populations
