Job Summary
Conduct technical building inspections for new constructions, additions, and alterations to enforce compliance with the International Building Code. Articulate complex building issues regarding life and safety to contractors, designers, and owners while identifying and solving problems through conferring with developers and engineers. Perform independent analysis of building plans, specifications, and codes, then write clear correction notices and inspection reports. Enforce codes with impartiality while adhering to OSHA standards, requiring the ability to kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and drive. Work full-time, Monday through Friday with weekends as needed, located on the road in Merced, Stanislaus, or San Joaquin Counties.
Required Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of experience working as a Building Inspector
- Must be certified through ICC, DSA, OSHPD and CASp certifications
- Proven knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, codes and ordinances relating to building construction, including State Energy and Accessibility regulations
- Understanding of the accepted safety standards, testing procedures and methods of construction
- Principles and techniques of building inspection work
- Basic understanding of the plan checking process
- Must have excellent customer service skills including, good listening and negotiating skills
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to kneel, crouch, and climb tall ladders
- Must have a valid California State driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- Three to five years as a Building Inspector is preferred
- Must be certified through ICC, DSA, OSHPD and CASp certifications are highly desired
- Computer knowledge and skills are desirable
- California Driver's License (Preferred)
- Weekends as needed
