Job Summary
Inspect residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes; review building plans for new construction and remodels; approve projects that meet regulations; advise contractors and residents on permit and code questions; address concerns, investigate potential zoning and safety violations, prepare reports or demolition warrants, issue Certificates of Occupancy, and enter inspection results into the city’s system while collaborating with other departments to maintain safe and compliant properties.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of municipal experience in building inspections and code enforcement
- Plumbing Inspector's license and Code Enforcement Officer certification from the State of Texas
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Knowledge of building inspection principles, practices, and construction methods
- Experience in conducting inspections and reviewing building plans for compliance
- Ability to investigate code violations, respond to public inquiries and complaints, and maintain departmental records and documentation
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work in a variety of conditions
- Ability to drive, sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch, kneel, climb ladders and stairs, and occasionally lift objects up to 20 pounds
- Additional ICC certifications and experience conducting municipal building inspections in a local government environment is preferred
