Job Summary
Building Custodian responsible for cleaning duties in common areas including floors, carpets, bathrooms, kitchens, doors, stairwells, windows, and disposing of refuge. Duties involve cleaning and maintaining cleanliness of grounds, reporting damages, and handling chemicals safely. Requires adherence to anti-oppression, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices; work in a harm-reduction environment with residents who may be experiencing substance use or mental wellness challenges. Must identify and live full-time as women or non-binary. Includes union membership requirement and Indigenous self-identification eligibility. 16 hours per week on Saturdays and Sundays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in Vancouver, BC, at Veronica Block Support Recovery Housing for Women.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 10
- One (1) month recent related experience
- A valid First Aid certificate
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate
- WHMIS certificate
- Criminal records review (paid by Atira)
- Ability to perform heavy cleaning duties
- Vaccinations recommended (COVID-19 booster and flu)
- Must self-identify Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) or be able to work with Indigenous populations
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must identify and live full time as women (including cisgender, transgender, Two Spirit, intersex women) or non-binary to be eligible for this position
- This position requires union membership with BC Government Employee’s Union (BCGEU)
