Building Controls Technician II/III - Data Center

Job Summary

Install, program, commission, and troubleshoot building management systems and electrical power monitoring systems within mission-critical data center environments. Service existing control systems, perform startup activities, and build low-voltage panels while executing cable installation and termination. Execute point-to-point verification, software calibration, and documentation for project commissioning. Partner with subcontractors and customers to deliver reliable solutions, own work from initiation through completion, and communicate progress proactively. Requires 40-50% travel and valid driver's license.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) in mission-critical or data center environments
  • Experience commissioning, programming, and troubleshooting networked control systems, including wire sheet programming and control logic
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems commonly found in data center environment
  • Ability to read and interpret: Network topologies
  • Ability to read and interpret: Electrical one-line diagrams
  • Ability to read and interpret: Device wiring drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret: Control drawings
  • Strong understanding of open protocols such as: BACnet IP
  • Strong understanding of open protocols such as: BACnet MSTP
  • Strong understanding of open protocols such as: Modbus TCP
  • Strong understanding of open protocols such as: Modbus RTU
  • Knowledge of low-voltage wiring and terminations including: RS-232
  • Knowledge of low-voltage wiring and terminations including: RS-485
  • Knowledge of low-voltage wiring and terminations including: CAT5/CAT6
  • Understanding of electrical code requirements and controls applications involving 120V, 240V, and 480V systems
  • Familiarity with CAD software and construction drawings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Ability to work in hard-hat construction environments
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to maneuver around piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to work safely near exposed line-voltage and low-voltage systems
  • Ability to perform field commissioning and troubleshooting activities for extended periods
  • Approximately 40-50% travel throughout the year
  • Ability to obtain and maintain customer-required site access credentials, security authorizations, and facility access approvals as required for assigned projects
  • Ability to travel to customer and project sites as required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Acceptable driving record
