Job Summary
Administer and enforce the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, Energy Conservation Construction Code, and applicable local laws, ordinances, and regulations. Coordinate with municipal staff to conduct field inspections, manage documentation, and communicate with applicants and design professionals. Maintain public safety and ensure regulatory compliance while providing responsive service to the municipality and its constituents. This part-time staff augmentation engagement supports a local Dutchess County building department, with specific hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The role requires current Code Enforcement Officer certification, familiarity with building department operations, and the ability to read construction documents and interpret zoning regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Current certification as a Code Enforcement Officer by New York State Department of State
- Working knowledge of the Uniform code and Energy Code
- Familiarity of building department operations
- Ability to read construction documents
- Ability to interpret zoning regulations
- Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Customer service oriented
- Valid New York State Driver's License
- Must have reliable vehicle
- Combination of office and field work
- Ability to navigate construction sites and varying terrain
- Exposure to different weather conditions
