Building Automation Technician

Job Summary

Perform service, maintenance, and repair on building automation and temperature control systems, troubleshooting controllers, sensors, actuators, and VFDs. Analyze system operation, alarms, and trends to diagnose issues and identify energy efficiency improvements. Support system upgrades, commissioning, and startup activities while verifying HVAC equipment through functional testing. Maintain accurate service documentation and coordinate with facility staff, subcontractors, and internal teams. Serve as a technical resource for customers, communicating findings and recommended corrective actions clearly. Follow company safety requirements and customer site procedures at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working with building automation systems, HVAC controls, or DDC systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
  • Experience servicing commercial HVAC control systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more of the following BAS platforms: Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Distech Controls, Delta Controls, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell WEBs, Alerton, Reliable Controls, KMC Controls, Carrier i-Vu, ABB, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure
  • Niagara N4 certification or equivalent BAS training
  • Factory-certified training from a BAS manufacturer
  • HVAC service experience or technical certifications
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Technical degree, trade school training, or related industry education
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP-based communications
  • Understanding of HVAC system operation and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and remote connectivity methods
  • Ability to interpret control drawings, wiring schematics, and sequences of operation
  • Familiarity with system integration and building technology ecosystems
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices for connected building systems
