Job Summary
Maintains buildings and grounds for the Berks County Intermediate Unit and assists in custodial duties. Responsibilities include snow removal and salting of parking lots and sidewalks, moving furniture between buildings and offices, and maintaining HVAC equipment, lighting, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and furniture assembly as directed. Must be able to operate industrial cleaning equipment, climb ladders, and lift heavy objects; schedule typical is 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., 40 hours/week, year-round. Emphasis on safe, clean entrances/exits and inventory/location management for materials in storage units.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- General maintenance and grounds maintenance work experience
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of maintaining building and grounds
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials used in building and grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate industrial-rated cleaning equipment, climb ladders, and work at heights of at least 16 feet
- Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. to a height of 30"; 30 lbs. to a height of 66")
