Job Summary
Develop production procedures and manage the transition of parts and assemblies from development to high-rate production. Architect the manufacturing system, factory layout, and processes to deliver next-generation commercial vessels, including designing tooling using hand calculations and CAD. Review CAD models for manufacturing feedback, create BOMs and work instructions, and integrate subsystems into full assemblies while executing test procedures. Disposition rework and repairs, simplify production flow through targeted automation, and implement linear production flow with visual bottleneck indicators. Interface with contractors and suppliers to generate improvements for current and next-generation vessels. This full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters requires consistent physical activity and up to 20% travel.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, operations engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related engineering discipline
- 1+ years of hands-on experience driving design, development, and manufacturing (internships, personal projects, and academic project team experience are applicable)
- Willingness to get hands-on building next-generation boats
- This is an active role that will require consistent physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs including trailering and boarding onto water vessels as needed
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in build/test development and on-time delivery of new hardware
- Experience with manufacturing processes, including but not limited to fabrication, welding, machining, or assembly
- Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of Design for Manufacturability
- Solid understanding and application of GD&T
- Analytical/scientific programming experience (i.e. Python, Matlab, Excel)
- Exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
- Leadership or mentorship experience and the ability to communicate and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization (technicians, engineers, exec team)
- Ability to articulate and defend engineering decisions
- Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
- Enthusiasm for boating and the water
