Job Summary
Plan and lead Broadway Spotlight residencies in NYC public high school classrooms, teaching through one assigned discipline in writing, theater, or dance. Guide students in analyzing live theater and creating original work using featured Broadway productions as entry points. Implement the pre-developed curriculum for Writing and Theater tracks or develop and lead Dance activities aligned with program goals. Adapt instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers to support students with diverse learning needs and prepare students for culminating showcases. Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school partners while completing required documentation. Sessions occur during regular school hours, 8:00 AM-2:30 PM, with occasional after-school periods across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience teaching in public school classrooms or comparable educational settings
- Professional experience or training in writing, theater, dance, musical theater, arts education, or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of musical theater, contemporary Broadway productions, and arts-based instruction for high school students
- Experience facilitating student-centered lessons in writing, theater, dance, performance, ELA/literacy, or arts-integrated instruction
- Ability to engage and re-engage large classroom groups with varied learning needs
- Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
- Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to teach from a pre-developed curriculum, where applicable, while remaining flexible and responsive in the classroom
- Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Grades 9-12
- Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners
