Job Summary
As Crown Counsel, lead the prosecution of offences under the Criminal Code, provincial laws, and certain federal statutes from start to finish; decide charges and guide cases through the court process in line with BC Prosecution Service policies and the Crown Counsel Act. Provide support to witnesses, victims, and families with care and respect to keep them informed throughout proceedings. Requires active membership or immediate eligibility for call to the BC Bar, 6th–11th year of call with at least 2 years of criminal-law experience, significant trial experience, potential preference for French-speaking applicants, and willingness to travel. Flexible work options available with up to 2 telework days per week under an approved agreement.
Required Qualifications
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, or immediate eligibility for call to the British Columbia Bar
- Crown Counsel Level 2: Counsel in their 6th to 11th year of call, with a minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a practicing lawyer in Canada, including in the area of Criminal Law
- Significant trial experience
- Travel is a requirement of this position
- French language competency (preferred)
