Job Summary
Lead a team of communications and engagement specialists to define and deliver public engagement activities that advance the priorities of Islands Trust Council, Conservancy, and local trust committees. Provide strategic advice and support for all communications across digital, media, and print channels while ensuring the public has meaningful opportunities to voice their opinions in decision-making processes. Manage complex issues management in a public sector context and advise senior leadership on communications tactics for diverse audiences. Some overnight travel is required, and a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence is necessary. This role supports the Islands Trust's mission to protect unique amenities and environment in the southern Strait of Georgia and Howe Sound.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline
- Minimum three years of experience leading and delivering strategic communications planning and tactics for diverse audiences
- Minimum three years of experience leading complex issues management in a public sector context
- Minimum three years of experience providing communications advice and expertise to the senior leadership of an organization
- Demonstrated experience working in public engagement or certification by International Association of Public Participation or related training/accreditation
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent)
- Some overnight travel
- Criminal Record Check
- Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
Desired Qualifications
- Supervisory experience in a unionized public sector employment environment
- Experience working in a BC municipal government organization
- Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities
