Job Summary
Bridge Tender role within CPKC’s Engineering team focused on maintaining and repairing bridges, trestles, buildings, and related structures. Responsibilities include performing general maintenance (greasing, bolt replacement, inspections after impacts, maintaining navigational lights), conducting machine maintenance, using hand and power tools, outdoor labor in all weather with occasional 24/7 callouts, inspecting and replacing timber/bridge ties, rail surfaces, building/erecting wooden and concrete bridge structures from blueprints, carrying out masonry and concrete work, assisting with hoisting equipment and steel work, and monitoring for train defects and debris to ensure safety. Requires a high school diploma or GED, 18+, valid CDL, ability to travel, 40-hour weeks plus overtime/on-call, outdoor work capability, physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds, and strict adherence to safety and PPE protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Must be able to travel frequently and work system-wide
- Available for a 40-hour work week, with overtime, on-call, alternate shifts, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
- Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Work on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, operate on/off equipment and work on scaffolding suspended from bridges
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required PPE
