Job Summary
Support the inspection team's quality, procedures, workload, and training while preparing proposals for new inspection contracts. Plan and perform structural inspections of highway, railroad, and ancillary structures in accordance with NHI and AREMA Standards. Conduct quality reviews of bridge inspection reports, sketches, photos, and cost estimates. Manage inspection equipment budgets to outfit teams with the latest gear. Work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and right-of-way tracks. This role involves a mix of office and field work within VHB's emerging structures/bridge inspection practice.
Required Qualifications
- Min 3-5 years of bridge inspection experience
- EIT license
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and adjacent to live highway and railroad traffic
- Familiarity with MBTA, MassDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA inspection requirements
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability and willingness to work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and on ROW tracks
Desired Qualifications
- NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course
- NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical (NSTM) course
- Experience with vertical lift equipment, under-bridge inspection trucks, and rope access credentials
