Job Summary
Lead planning, development, and assessment of civic engagement events, activities, and experiences for the Student Government office. Supervise and train part-time staff including Elections Assistants and Office Assistants while coordinating travel for student leaders to state conferences. Manage departmental budgets, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with open meeting laws and by-laws. Support student government leaders in developing leadership skills, communicating with constituents, and enacting legislation. Maintain calendars, schedule meetings, and provide administrative coordination for the Associate Director, President, and Vice President. Perform copy-editing on leader documents and monitor department webpage updates. Work 12-20 hours per week across early mornings, late nights, and weekends on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, business/event management, public administration, or closely related field
- current graduate-level work preferred
- one year of experience in student union or working with student government with experience planning large-scale programs and events
- Knowledge of and commitment to student development principles
- Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community
- Ability to motivate, mentor and work closely with students
- Demonstrated ability to achieve assigned objectives within budget and identified time frame
- Ability to operate an office workstation, utilizing word processing, spreadsheets and other applications
- Must possess ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and assignments
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to do public speaking and make presentations
- Ability to solve problems independently
- Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift to 45 pounds
- Must be able to work in a smoke and tobacco-free campus environment
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Must successfully pass a background screening as an offer of employment is contingent on background clearance
- Must be a Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States
- Student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate)
- International student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate)
- Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University
- Must be available for 12-20 hours per week
- Must be available for early mornings (5AM), late nights (1AM) and weekends
- Must be available for Summer, Fall and Spring semester hours
- Must be able to work on campus
- Must be designated as a mandated reporter and sign an Acknowledgment of Mandated Reporter Status and Legal Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect
