Job Summary
Serve as a primary resource for cancer patients and families, removing barriers to treatment and providing emotional support throughout the care continuum. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive care, advocate for timely access to services, and resolve obstacles impacting treatment plans. Function as a clinical expert in an assigned disease area, coordinate tumor board activities, and provide direct clinical care as needed. Monitor navigation metrics and quality indicators for reporting to the Cancer Committee and accreditation purposes while leading committees and quality improvement initiatives. Participate in community outreach and education regarding cancer prevention and treatment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience
- Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Oncology Nursing Certification
- Knowledge of the healthcare system, cancer care, community resources, and social service resources for cancer patients
- Strong leadership, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed environment and effectively lead and collaborate with teams
- Demonstrated empathy and a service-oriented approach when engaging with patients, families, and community groups
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all situations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Desired Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Bilingual language proficiency
- Additional years of nursing experience and/or Nurse Navigator experience
- Breast Nurse Navigation certification
- National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC): Certified Navigator Breast Advocate Program (CN-BA)
- George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences Education Program: Oncology Patient Navigator Training
- Oncology Nursing Society: Equipping the Novice Oncology Nurse Navigator: An ONS Collaboration with AONN+
- American Cancer Society Leadership in Oncology Navigation (ACS LIONTM)
