Job Summary
Monitor official sources, including Hebrew-language media and wire services, for breaking developments in Israel and the Jewish world. Write and publish clear, accurate updates to the live breaking news ticker, exercising strong editorial judgment to prioritize stories and verify information before release. Maintain a steady flow of updates throughout shifts, increasing output during major events, while coordinating with the Shift Editor and Desk Lead to ensure seamless handoffs. Contribute to ongoing improvements in workflow and monitoring practices. This fast-paced role requires excellent news judgment and the ability to work calmly under pressure, supporting JNS's dedicated Breaking News Desk in delivering around-the-clock coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Previous newsroom or journalism experience
- Exceptional news judgment
- Ability to identify stories quickly
- Excellent English writing and editing skills
- Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Familiarity with Israeli current affairs
- Familiarity with the regional news landscape
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a remote newsroom
- Ability to use Slack and other digital tools
