Job Summary
Operate a box truck to pick up donated items from donors, safely loading and unloading items while following traffic rules and designated routes. Maintain accurate records of donations (item descriptions and donor information) and provide courteous, professional customer service. Ensure items are securely transported to the warehouse or designated locations, perform vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns, and participate in training to stay current with procedures and policies.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass motor vehicle records check
- Proven ability to operate a box truck safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations applicable to large commercial vehicles
- Ability to work independently and adhere to a set schedule
- Proficiency in maneuvering the truck in tight spaces
- Flexible schedule to accommodate changes in pickup routes or schedules
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds and carry it for short distances
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactors
- Visual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructions
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxes
- Strong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objects
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Ability to tolerate exposure to unpleasant odors, hazardous materials, and potentially dangerous situations
- Good hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record check
