Job Summary
Operate a box truck to collect donated furniture, household goods, and clothing from donors, following designated routes to maximize pickups and minimize travel time. Safely load and unload items, ensuring they are securely packed to prevent damage, while maintaining a clean vehicle and reporting maintenance concerns. Accurately record donation details, donor information, and quantities, then unload and organize items at the warehouse for sorting. Provide professional customer service during interactions, thank donors for contributions, and report unique or valuable donations to management. Adhere to traffic laws, health protocols, and flexible schedules while working in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check
- Proven ability to operate a box truck safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations applicable to large commercial vehicles
- Ability to work independently and adhere to a set schedule
- Proficiency in maneuvering the truck in tight spaces
- Flexible schedule to accommodate changes in pickup routes or schedules
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and carry it for short distances
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of time
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactors
- Visual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructions
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxes
- Strong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objects
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Ability to tolerate exposure to unpleasant odors, hazardous materials, and potentially dangerous situations
- Good hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record check
