Job Summary
Apply gel coat to hulls, decks, and small parts according to boat orders while ensuring raw materials and pigments are ready and arranged per documentation. Mix materials for accurate color matching, inspect finishes for defects like runs or pinholes, and make necessary repairs. Clean and maintain spray guns and other application equipment to prevent contamination, adhering to safety protocols for chemicals and moving mechanical parts. Prioritize tasks efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, non-climate controlled shop floor environment requiring extended standing and lifting up to 35 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to read/hear, interpret and/or understand instructions given verbally or written and exchange accurate information with others
- Must possess excellent reasoning skills including researching system discrepancies and kitting errors
- Must have basic reading comprehension and writing skills
- Must be able to work from verbal and written instructions
- Must be capable of working with computer terminals
- Must be able to complete routine paperwork
- Ability to remain extremely focused and organized with a high attention to detail / high degree of accuracy
- Ability to work with multiple priorities and people
- This role will require a high level of energy, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Must possess the ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb, and lift or move up to 35 pounds
- Vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Proactive team player who is a self-starter with constant attention to improvement
- Prior experience as a gelcoater or in a similar role
- Familiarity with boat manufacturing or repair processes
- Must have basic reading comprehension and writing skills, be able to work from verbal and written instructions, be capable of working with computer terminals and be able to complete routine paperwork
- Ability to remain extremely focused and organized with a high attention to detail / high degree of accuracy
- Able to work with multiple priorities and people
- This role will require a high level of energy, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in MS office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Familiarity with Materials Resources Planning (MRP) software and systems
- Marine experience preferred but not required
- Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods
