Job Summary
Bosnian language Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for the DOJ Linguistic Support Services. The role involves translating, transcribing, and interpreting a broad range of sensitive legal materials (documents, audio/video, deposition interpretations) across medical, scientific, financial, historical, and governmental domains. Requires ILR four or equivalent, five-plus years of experience in the language, U.S. residency in the past five years, at least one year with a law enforcement/legal department, U.S. citizenship, native-language fluency with strong command of the non-native language, CAT tools proficiency (SDL Trados Studio), and adherence to strict confidentiality. Some travel may be required. Remote work possible alongside National Capital Region and CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary related to Government’s varied roles and missions; possess research and analytical skills for terminology translation
- Write in native language fluently with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, esp. SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
