Job Summary
Book Illustrator collaborates with the Language Team to create engaging illustrations for Nisqually language and cultural materials, using pencil, ink, and digital tools to capture characters, settings, and storylines. Responsibilities include aligning illustrations with project goals, providing creative input, maintaining a professional portfolio, meeting deadlines, and participating in community events. Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, confidentiality, and the ability to work with remote teams are important; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and experience in traditional and digital illustration methods are required. The role is based in Olympia, WA, with standard in-person duties and potential for occasional extended hours or weekends as project deadlines dictate. A pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check are required. Preferred qualifications include experience working with remote teams, leading creative projects, knowledge of Nisqually tribal culture, and experience with federally recognized tribes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience as an illustrator or a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant work
- Proficiency in a variety of illustration techniques and mediums
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or related applications
- Must Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
