Job Summary
Travel daily to customer sites to assemble boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications using power and hand tools. Read blueprints to determine part locations and relationships, then connect fire tubes to heads or water tubes to drums using tube expanders and power hammers. Drill holes for studs, tighten bolts for frames, and mount casings or attach burners and furnaces. Replace defective parts or piping, install refractory brick or furnace tile, thread pipe, and remove insulation to repair seams. Fabricate, assemble, and maintain piping systems by threading or sweating copper, selecting materials per specifications, and testing systems for leaks via pressure gauges. Pass a 6G weld test using SMAW process on 2" schedule 180 pipe with 6010 root and 7018 filler/cap, adhering to ASME code for Mig, Tig, and Stick welding.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass a 6G weld test, including super coupon
- Must have a valid current driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must pass company's weld test, using SMAW process, in 6G position on a 2" schedule 180 pipe (5/8 " thick), with a 6010 root pass and a 7018 filler and cap
- ASME code: Mig, Tig & Stick
- Must have recent pipe and/or tube welding experience
- Must be able to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
- Must be able to make decisions based on measurable criteria
- Must be able to visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings
- Must pass screening for vision and hearing
- Knowledge of Industrial & commercial safety, General Basic plus Safety, LOTO, working overhead, confined space entry, basic electricity safety
- Must be available for daily travel to customer sites
