Job Summary
Assemble boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications using power and hand tools. Read blueprints to determine part locations and relationships, then connect fire tubes to heads or water tubes to drums by expanding and belling ends. Drill and tap holes for studs, tighten bolts for frame assembly, and mount casings or attach burners and furnace components. Replace defective parts or piping, install refractory brick or furnace tile, thread and install pipe, and remove insulation to repair seams. Cut out defective boiler tubes with an acetylene torch, test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure, and inspect worksites for obstructions. Plan installation sequences to avoid conflicts with other construction workers and secure pipes with clamps and brackets. Requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds while working at heights and in confined spaces.
Required Qualifications
- A High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
- Must be able to make decisions based on measurable criteria
- Must be able to visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings
- Must be able to work easily and skillfully with hands
- Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds
- Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Must be willing and able to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Must have a valid current driver's license with a clean driving record
- Knowledge of Industrial & commercial safety
- Knowledge of General Basic plus Safety
- Knowledge of LOTO
- Knowledge of working overhead
- Knowledge of confined space entry
- Knowledge of basic electricity safety
