Job Summary
Operate and maintain the medium pressure boiler plant machinery during the heating season, starting and stopping boilers as needed and transferring fuel oil when required. Monitor pressure, temperature, and water levels while performing chemical tests on condensation and checking for leaks. Perform general maintenance work in the Physical Plant during non-heating seasons, including assisting with window screens and vacuum repairs. Keep the boiler plant clean and clear assigned outdoor areas of snow and debris. Work the 3rd shift from October through April and the 1st shift from May to September, with availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and at least two years of related boiler operation experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of institutional boilers and related equipment
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions necessary in a boiler plant operation
- Ability to work well independently
- Good problem solving skills
- Solid hand/eye coordination
- Able to operate all related boiler plant instruments and tools
- Available to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Will work 3rd shift (6pm-6am) from October-April and 1st Shift (7am-3:30pm) from May-September
- Minimum of two years related experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers or mechanical maintenance activities
