Body Shop Technician Apprentice

Job Summary

Repairs damaged body parts and vehicles per estimates and manufacturer standards. Prepares vehicles for body work, checks parts against estimates, and notifies management of additional repairs or difficulties. Operates tools and equipment safely while maintaining all tools and personal protective equipment. Complies with federal, state, and local regulations regarding hazardous materials and waste disposal. Cooperates with other personnel in repair and prepping. Requires Monday through Friday schedule, no weekends, and a valid driver's license.

Required Qualifications

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training
  • I-CAR Certificate of Advanced Training
  • Advanced Vehicle Systems
  • Aluminum Repair, Replacement and Welding
  • Collision Repair 2000
  • Electronics for Collision Repair
  • Understanding Collision Repair
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials
  • State of Michigan collision repair license
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
  • Must be able to climb or balance
  • Must have close vision

  • Must have color vision
  • Must have peripheral vision
  • Must have depth perception
  • Must have the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Must be frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and explosives
  • Must be occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock
  • Must be able to maintain and wear all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer
  • Must comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials
  • Must understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc
  • Must be able to operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
