Job Summary
Appraise vehicle damage to determine repair costs for insurance claim settlement. Examine damaged vehicles to assess structural, body, mechanical, or interior damage. Estimate labor and parts costs for repairs or replacements, then review estimates with the body shop manager or foreman. Resolve disagreements by arranging independent appraisals and determine feasibility of repairing versus replacing components like bumpers and doors. Evaluate practicality of repair versus market value payment and calculate salvage value for total losses. Prepare insurance forms with cost estimates and recommendations, and estimate costs for repainting or customizing undamaged vehicles. Requires ASE certifications, I-CAR training, and a valid driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to three months related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
- I-CAR Certificate of Advanced Training
- Manufacturer Training
- Valid Driver's License
