Job Summary
Conduct field visits to identify deficient structural conditions on bridges, tunnels, and retaining walls, perform structural analysis, and prepare design plans. Create detailed sketches, repair protocols, and preliminary design drawings while maintaining records of outstanding repair requests. Coordinate repair work with external units and governmental entities, confirm compliance with required codes, and supervise subordinate engineers. Prepare responses to correspondence, make court appearances, provide affidavits, and sign and seal official engineering documents. This role involves managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels for the New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges. Candidates must possess a valid New York State Professional Engineer license and at least one year of bridge-specific experience.
Required Qualifications
- Serving permanently in the title within DOT or being reachable on DOT's promotional list
- Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
- A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college (substitutable for one year of experience)
- One year of civil engineering experience in bridge design, bridge construction, bridge maintenance, or bridge inspections
- A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer
- Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work
- At least two (2) years of the six years of experience must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity
Desired Qualifications
- Strong background in AutoCAD, Acrobat and MS office suite
- Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions
- Ability to drive city owned vehicle
- Must be organized and be able to effectively and professionally communicate
- Must be able to compose formal letters and emails
