Job Summary
Operate and navigate a 30-foot RHIB on whale tours from Icy Strait Point, ensuring guest safety and a high-quality experience. Direct crew, load/unload passengers, maintain voyage logs and weather/wildlife observations, follow set tours and schedules, and execute safety drills in accordance with CFR 46 and Coast Guard regulations. Display strong vessel operation skills (GPS, chart plots, radar, depth finders, radios), supervise a deckhand, inspect equipment, and uphold company guiding principles. Must be able to live in a remote Alaska community, travel to/from the remote setting, and maintain required licenses and certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Three years prior experience operating a boat
- Current, 25-ton USCG Master’s License
- Coast Guard and CFR 46 regulations knowledge
- First Aid/CPR certification and Radio Operator License
- Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Insurable with Icy Strait Point (within past 5 years)
- Willingness to learn about Tlingit culture
- Knowledge of local marine area
- Customer service and communication skills
- Team-oriented
- Ability to log daily activities and perform drills
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk long periods
- Willing to live in a remote, rural community
