Job Summary
BMIRH Medical Director at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene provides medical leadership and clinical guidance to BMIRH initiatives aimed at reducing racial disparities in maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity. Leads clinical trainings, stays current with relevant literature, supports data collection and evaluation, and informs program materials and curricula across BMIRH, including home visiting, sexuality education materials, and cross-bureau collaborations. Collaborates with medical directors and leaders across divisions to align maternal, reproductive, and child health goals with a lifecourse approach; represents the Assistant Commissioner at meetings and may serve as Acting AC in their absence. Preferred skills include board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology or Family Medicine, a Master’s in Public Health (or related field), managerial experience, and a commitment to reproductive and racial justice, with experience partnering with community organizations. Required Qualifications
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York
- Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board or current approved application for admission to the certifying examination
- For Assignment Level II: one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area (in addition to minimum qualifications)
- For Assignment Level III: valid license in NY; Master's degree in Public Health or related field; epidemiology/biostatistics credentials; at least two years post-Master's experience; board certification or eligibility may substitute for one year of experience
- For Assignment Level IV: valid NY medical license; accredited residency in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or related specialty; board certification or board eligibility in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or related subspecialty; fellowship in infectious diseases or pulmonary medicine with related experience
