Job Summary
Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures including specimen processing, testing, result reporting, and quality control. Operate and maintain instruments such as platelet incubators, centrifuges, and blood analyzers while documenting quality assurance procedures. Manage inventory by ordering blood products, reconciling shipments, inspecting units, and adhering to FIFO systems. Execute pre-transfusion testing including ABO/Rh, antibody screening, and crossmatching, then accurately enter results into computer systems. Modify components through irradiation, volume reduction, and thawing, followed by careful blood dispensing based on patient needs. Detect and report suspected transfusion reactions, conduct investigations, and manage non-conformance reports. Participate in internal and external assessments, train new technologists, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education
- Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university
- One year experience in a clinical laboratory
- completion of an internship at a qualified institution
- Effective Interpersonal and Communication skills

- work experience in a large volume hospital
- MLS/MT ASCP certification credentials
- BB certification credentials
- SBB certification credentials
