Job Summary
Perform routine and complicated laboratory procedures including specimen processing, patient specimen testing, and result reporting. Execute quality control, instrument maintenance, and calibration for devices such as platelet incubators and blood analyzers. Manage inventory by ordering blood products, reconciling shipments, inspecting components, and removing expired units. Conduct pre-transfusion testing including ABO/Rh, antibody screening, and crossmatching while interpreting results into the computer. Perform component modifications like irradiation, volume reduction, and thawing. Issue blood products carefully according to special patient needs and SOPs. Detect and report suspected transfusion reactions, completing thorough investigations. Participate in internal and external assessments, corrective action plans, and training of new medical technologists. Comply with biological, chemical, and radiation safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education
- Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university
- One year experience in a clinical laboratory
- completion of an internship at a qualified institution
- Effective Interpersonal Communication skills

- MLS/MT ASCP certification credentials
- BB certification credentials
