Job Summary
Determine specimen acceptability according to established criteria and perform routine and complex technical procedures per departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality while making technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls; report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary, and maintain a safe work environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Work evening shifts from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM Monday through Friday, rotating every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- 4 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
- ASCP or AMT certification
- Proficient with computers
- Familiarity SafeTrace, and EPIC Beaker
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Desired Qualifications
- 3 year or more years clinical laboratory testing experience in Blood Bank
- 1 year or more years of experience with QC review, testing look-backs, and FDA requirements related to Blood Bank operations
