Job Summary
Determine specimen acceptability, perform routine and complex technical procedures, and monitor instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls while reporting accurate results to deliver quality patient care. Document preventive maintenance, quality control procedures, and replenish bench supplies as necessary. Maintain a safe work environment by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and assisting with specimen processing when needed. Work the 3rd shift (8:30 PM - 7:00 AM) on a 4x10 schedule with rotating weekends. Requires an MLS degree or Bachelor's in Clinical Laboratory Science with high-complexity Blood Bank experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
- MLS degree
- 1 year or more high-complexity Blood Bank experience
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Proficient with computers
- High level of attention detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
- Work Schedule: 3rd Shift
- 4 X 10's
- Weekdays and rotating weekends 8:30 PM - 7:00 AM
Desired Qualifications
- ASCP or AMT certification
- 1 year or more dedicated hospital based blood bank experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
- Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards
- Passion for helping people
