Job Summary
Blood Bank Laboratory Technologist responsible for determining specimen acceptability, performing routine and complex procedures, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, making technical decisions, preparing, testing and evaluating reagents/controls, reporting accurate results to support patient care, performing preventive maintenance and quality control, identifying and replenishing supplies, assisting with specimen processing, and maintaining a safe work environment with PPE. Schedule: 3rd shift (4 x 10s) with weekdays and rotating weekends (8:30 PM – 7:00 AM). Includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus for external applicants. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a chemical/biological science or MLS, 1 year of clinical lab experience or MLS degree with high-complexity blood bank experience, and preferred ASCP or AMT certification; candidate must be able to work independently and within a team in a high-volume production-based clinical lab setting and be proficient with LIS/IT systems and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
- 1 year or more high-complexity Blood Bank experience
- ASCP or AMT certification (preferred)
- 1 year or more dedicated hospital based blood bank experience as an MLS (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Proficient with computers
- High attention to detail and strong communication/organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
