Job Summary
Plan, organize, and manage all aspects of the GSRP classroom instruction while developing positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and community members. Create a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate setting by implementing curriculum, planning assessments, and carrying out educational and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Support assistant teachers, service providers, and volunteers; provide diapering and toileting assistance; maintain a clean facility; and administer medication and First Aid as needed. Conduct home visits and parent conferences; participate in IEPs, staff development, and building meetings; and enforce safety standards and behavior management techniques. Treat all family information confidentially and adhere to MiLEAP Child Care Licensing guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age per MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations
- Must obtain one of the following or be willing to obtain through a program issued Compliance Plan: Valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, Birth-K, or PK-3 endorsement
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching
- transcript must document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education
- Must have current First Aid and infant, child, an adult CPR training or be willing to obtain at next available offering
- Willing to complete up to 20 clock hours of professional development training, in addition to new hire requirements as required by MiLEAP Child Care Licensing regulations
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance
- Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including sitting on the floor, bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students
- The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with children, parents, colleagues, administrative staff and community members
- Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s)
- Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently
- Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the district's school year calendar
- May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends for school events or professional development activities
- The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
Desired Qualifications
- Work experience in the field preferred, with skills in classroom management, curriculum planning, and supervision
