Job Summary
Develop and analyze research data using statistical methods, including SAS, R, and STATA, while assisting investigators in designing study protocols and computer analyses. Manage data systems, write programs, and train others in statistical software usage. Consult with researchers to define clinical questions, develop data collection instruments, and establish quality control plans for retrospective and prospective studies. Perform routine statistical analyses, generate tables and graphics for manuscripts, and draft statistical methods and results sections. Document findings through interdepartmental memoranda and reports, ensuring adherence to good clinical practice and data ethics. Collaborate within a team-science environment to refine technical writing and statistical programming skills under the supervision of senior biostatisticians.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field
- Two years related experience
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
- Residency in the state of GA
- Ability to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs
- Basic knowledge of study design
- Continual expansion of statistical programming skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills on scientific and technical issues
- Attention to schedule (deadlines) and accurate assessment of time needed to complete projects
- Ensures good clinical practice through quality data (data and reported results are credible and accurate)
- Ethics (security and confidentiality of subjects' data are protected)
- Ability to develop and implement data management and quality control plans for larger clinical studies within a team-science environment
- Fundamentals of using data management software (query system and edit checks for quality control)
- Ability to work under the supervision of faculty and/or staff (senior/lead/principal biostatisticians)
- Ability to effectively communicate with medical investigators on scientific issues
- Ability to develop a clear, mutual understanding of the clinical research problem with medical investigators
- Ability to engage in clear, broad, specific two-way iterative communication on both scientific issues and research roles
Desired Qualifications
- A master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field
- Background in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, and/or other related quantitative field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
- Statistical programming skills (SAS, R, STATA)
- Technical writing skills necessary to summarize the results of analysis based on implementation of a statistical analysis plan
- Ability to develop expertise in the design and development of Case Report Forms (CRFs) based on the data collection requirements dictated by the study protocol and manual of procedures
- Ability to design and generate tables and statistical graphics needed for medical manuscripts
- Ability to address issues identified through peer review of medical manuscripts
- Ability to identify and draft a description of study limitations that should be communicated to the reader of peer reviewed studies
- Ability to earn co-authorship on a clinical paper
- Ability to learn both a generalist's breadth and a specialist knowledge to effectively collaborate on medical research projects
