Biosecurity Team Leader (Pest Animal & Plant Control)

Job Summary
Lead a small team in delivering field work for animal and plant pest control operations across the Southern South Island, ensuring contract requirements are met. Plan, organize, and direct daily activities including trapping, baiting, surveying, and monitoring of invasive species like gorse and broom. Complete all relevant site documentation daily and monitor operations to report progress to managers. Deputise for Field Operation Leaders or Supervisors when required. Maintain accurate records using GPS and handheld devices while adhering to strict safety and risk management protocols in remote backcountry environments. This fixed-term role runs until June 2027 with the possibility of extension.
Required Qualifications
- Class 1 Full New Zealand driver's licence
- Experience operating a 4 Wheel Drive, Light Utility Vehicle and/or motorcycle
- First aid certificate
- A Controlled Substance Licence (CSL), Approved Handler Certificate for relevant substances, and a firearms licence
- The ability to obtain these licences
- A passion and knowledge of the outdoors
- A strong focus on health and safety
- The ability to work away from home for extended periods of time
- An understanding of working in a rural environment
- Speciality experience in either pest plant or pest animal management
- People management skills
- A high level of fitness
- Must be able to obtain a Controlled Substance Licence (CSL), Approved Handler Certificate for relevant substances, and a firearms licence
Desired Qualifications
- First aid certificate (beneficial)
- A Controlled Substance Licence (CSL), Approved Handler Certificate for relevant substances, and a firearms licence is preferable but not essential
