Biosafety Officer

Job Summary
Conduct risk assessments, lab inspections, and protocol reviews to protect employees, contractors, visitors, and the environment from biohazardous exposures. Ensure full compliance with Select Agents and Toxins regulations, including serving as the Responsible Official for the Institute's Select Agent Program. Develop and implement health and safety programs, review biosafety plans, and advise researchers on biocontainment levels and safety practices. Manage biological waste, handle on-call emergency responses, and assist with importing or transporting infectious materials between campuses. Requires BSL-3/ABSL-3 experience, a background check, and National Select Agent Registration clearance. This onsite role at Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute may offer relocation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field
- five or more years of prior biosafety experience
- BSL-3 and ABSL-3 experience
- Expert knowledge of the NIH Guidelines
- Expert knowledge of the CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories guidelines
- Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Expert knowledge of CDC/APHIS Select Agents and Toxins regulations
- Expert knowledge of DOT regulations
- Expert knowledge of IATA Guidelines
- Expert knowledge of other relevant federal, state and local regulations, guidelines, and standards

Desired Qualifications
- Experience as an RO or ARO or Certified Biosafety Professional (CBSP) and RBP
- Master's degree in microbiology, virology, public health, biosafety or environmental health
