Job Summary
Bioprocessing Laboratory Technician in the FlexBio facility at Heriot-Watt University to support fermentation and cell culture scale-up and downstream processing. Responsibilities include setup, calibration, operation, and monitoring of bioreactors/fermenters; routine cleaning and maintenance; inventory control and procurement of consumables; assisting in training and maintaining facility records; data documentation following GLP/SOPs; collaboration with scientists and cross-department teams; and contributing to client and academic projects across scales from 2 L to 300 L.
Required Qualifications
- At least an HND and/or Bachelor's qualification in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or related subject (SCQF level 8 or higher); not suitable for PhD
- Experience performing technical support in a bioprocessing environment supporting cell culture or fermentation bioreactors
- Experience making up large volumes of buffer/media (>10 L)
- Experience using and maintaining routine laboratory equipment (e.g., balances, pH meter, spectrophotometer, biosafety cabinet, autoclave)
- Experience cleaning of a laboratory work environment (daily/weekly) and adherence to GLP and SOPs
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, collaborative team player
