Job Summary
Biomedical Scientist role based on-site in our Manchester laboratory. You will operate Abbott Alinity and Sysmex XN-550 analysers, support quality systems to return results within 30 minutes of sample receipt, and work autonomously. Responsibilities include daily initialisation and preparation of analysers, performing tests on biochemistry immunoassay and haematology platforms, validating patient results, escalating clinically anomalous findings, conducting daily calibration and internal QC, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and escalation of technical issues. You will work within an ISO 15189-aligned UKAS-facing quality management system, author SOP updates, monitor EQA performance, support audits and investigate non-conformances. You will contribute to service improvement (verifier activity, reagent evaluation, software testing), maintain accurate auditable records, support performance monitoring across turnaround times and KPIs, and provide technical guidance and training to clinical colleagues and lab staff.
Required Qualifications
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist, with evidence of ongoing CPD
- Minimum one year of post-registration experience in clinical chemistry and immunoassay, including IQC and EQA practice
- Demonstrable experience operating an integrated clinical chemistry and immunoassay analyser
- Experience working accurately and efficiently under time pressure, suited to a low-volume, fast-turnaround service model
