Job Summary
Support the design, development, and implementation of surveillance tools to collect epidemiologic data for Viral Vaccine-Preventable Disease Programs. Maintain epidemiological and laboratory data using SAS, R, REDCap, and other software packages. Convert datasets from diverse file formats into SAS datasets and develop bioinformatics pipelines using parallel programming on Linux-based high-performance computing environments. Conduct data mining and curation from public sequence databases, while creating dashboards with Power BI, Tableau, and R Shiny to visualize laboratory and epidemiological data. Submit monthly progress reports detailing achievements and project obstacles. This role supports the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases within the Division of Viral Diseases and the Viral Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Life Sciences, Public Health, or related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Core experience with analysis of biological datasets encountered in studies of infectious disease (sequencing, protein, phenotype, or other relevant data types)
- Experience with selection/evaluation of computational approaches to perform analyses of biomedical data
- Experience with interpretation, reporting, and documentation of computational analyses over biological datasets
- US Citizen (birth or naturalization)
- Must be able to potentially obtain security clearances as needed (i.e., Confidential, Secret, or Top Secret)
